Iraq War Veteran Troy Yocum will hike 7,000 miles across America, banging his drum and sounding the call for $5 million to help military families in need. With Emmie the SuperDog by his side, he takes the first step of his 16-month quest on April 17, 2010.

Emerson Elaine Eskridge the Superdog was born in Louisville, KY on June 19th, 2007. She is the smallest of the six original and distinct breeds of dog from Japan called Shiba Inu (柴犬?).

She is a small, agile dog that copes very well with mountainous terrain and trails. Emmie has an abundance of energy. She loves to run, play catch, and hunt small animals. There is never a dull moment when she is around!

Emmie has a thick coat, especially during the winter. Her safety is a main concern from the crew during very hot days. If temperatures rise then Emmie will take it nice and easy by riding in the RV that follows SPC Yocum. Of course she can't stand this. She always wants to be out front to lead the hike. We sometimes think that she was born for the purpose of hiking across America!

Troy and Emmie are scheduled to enter the San Antonio city limits on February 3rd 2011. Please mark your calendars - for there are many, many exciting things we have in mind for that day and evening!!!

An RV will be following Troy and Emmie will have luxurious accommodations, as she tires from the daily 20 mile hikes. She will have a camera tracking her trek and we will post it on our Web site.

Have you seen any of the pictures or videos of Emmie in her vest? Oh my goodness that little girl is ADORABLE! I have a beautiful picture of her in it that I will print for you and send with the dog tags. Troy has been interviewed by Fox News, and several local stations, and he does an exceptional job of articulating his cause and his vision for the hike.

I am SO humbled and honored that all of you have allowed us to be even a small part of this event that will help so many military families. God is good :)

We are driving to Louisville Friday evening to meet with Troy and then be a part of the kickoff. He asked us to even carry the banner for him for a while....wow! I will probably be in tears the whole time. I have so many military moms as close friends, as well as a nephew on his 2nd deployment, and my son actively working on re-enlisting in the Marines now that his waiting period (medical discharge) is up.
